Turn left outside Motherwell station onto the A721 Muir Street, and follow the road along as it runs parallel to the railway. The first vantage point for the depot is from the railway bridge that you come to after about 300 yards - it is safer to carry on over the bridge and take the first right to park in the B&Q car-park. Further views can be had from the car-park itself, and from the garden centre area by going into the B&Q store.
To view the far end of the depot, continue up the road that takes you through the B&Q car-park and runs up the side of the old Royal Mail sidings and the fuel line.
To view the far side of the depot, you will need to view from a Motherwell to Cumbernauld train. An idea of what you will see from the train can be gleaned from the view from the bridge. A SPT (Strathclyde Passenger Transit) Daytripper ticket is excellent value and will allow unlimited travel (anytime at weekends, and after 9am on weekdays) around Glasgow, and not only covers Motherwell and Cumbernauld, but extends to Ayr and even further to the south-west. See also under Coatbridge and Mossend if travelling by train.
