ShunterSpot Derby

Litchurch Lane, the RTC (Railway Technical Centre) and Etches Park are in close proximity to each other just south of Derby station. The RTC (where Fragonset and Serco are based) and Etches Park can be viewed either side of the main line from trains between Derby and Long Eaton / Nottingham. Look to the left for Etches Park and to the right for the RTC on leaving Derby station. Litchurch Lane is not visible from passing trains.

To view all three sites from the road, go straight ahead outside the main entrance of Derby station and at the traffic lights, turn left onto the A6 London Road. Follow this until it goes over the Uttoxeter and Burton lines, and from the bridge you can look across the main line to view Etches Park. Contunue off the bridge (passing Litchurch Lane on the right) down London Road for restricted views of the RTC from the security barrier on the left. It is also possible to see some RTC stock in between buildings about 100 yards further down London Road.

On your right is the Litchurch Lane works - view through the fence. For further views of Litchurch Lane, check City Gate further on on the right, and also check down Litchurch Lane itself to view the other side of the works.

For further views of Etches Park and the RTC, continue down London Road and turn left at the roundabout. Go over the bridge over the main line and turn left at the next roundabout. Park here to view the other side of the RTC and Etches Park. Binoculars required.

Further (restricted) views of Etches Park may be possible by returning to the roundabout and turning left, and left at the next roundabout and then first left into the industrial / business park following the road up to the entrance of the Bombardier Works, though building work is likely to hamper viewing.
