The shunters are situated at the Currock carriage and wagon works, just south of Carlisle station.
Outside Carlisle station, turn right along Botchergate and right into Crown Street (if there is no right turn into Crown Street, take the next right into King Street, right into Lancaster Street and left into Crown Street). Go under the railway bridge and at the end of Crown Street, turn left into Currock Road and right into South Western Terrace. The depot entrance is at the end of this road, from where partial views of the depot can be obtained.
The other side of the depot can be seen from a footbridge over the Barrow line at the south end of the depot. However, tall steps will be needed in order to look over the side of the bridge. To reach the bridge, at the top of South Western Terrace, turn left into Currock Road and, after passing the Crown Street turning, turn left into Rome Street and follow this road as it becomes Bousteads Grassing. Park at the end and a footpath leads off to the left behind the last house to the footbridge.
The shunters are not always visible, presumably they are kept inside the depot when not in use. It may be necessary to attempt viewing just after wagons have been delivered to the works for repair - look out for the Kingmoor Yard shunter tripping them through Carlisle station.
If out in the yard, any shunters would be seen from trains between Carlisle and Dalston on the Barrow line, on the left-hand side when travelling from Carlisle.
